Thanks to the blog of Benoit Tarlant at Champagne Tarlant for the link to this most excellent website : Champagne Serge Matthieu. It entertained me for a good ten minutes and by the end I was parched! I have never heard of him, or tried his Champagne, but I am going to. Anyone who is creative enough, and crazy enough to put together a site like this, must make excellent wine. It is imported in the US by Charles Neal Selections. Check out this website, it will make you smile! Be sure not to miss the history of the winery with animations taking you from Henri IV to present day France. It's pretty darn funny... Be patient, some of the images appear after a few seconds... Enjoy!

Funny how one person's best can be another's worst. I've looked at dozens and dozens of French winery websites, and the conclusion I have reached is that the sale of the Flash authoring software should be banned in France!

I'll bet johng didn't like Monty Python either.

Awwwww come on John, I thought it was hilarious! I haven't seen any other sites that use Flash, but obviously I've missed them!

Actually I like Monty Python just fine, though the animations are more framing and filler than they are substance, which is how I like my Flash, too. Generally I think the web is about content and I like websites that organize and present that content simply and attractively, and I don't like using the fanciest tool in the box just because it's available when a simpler tool will do the job better. Look at this blog - there's nothing more simple, more inexpensive, and more content-heavy than a blog, and there's also nothing better at creating buzz and placing well in search engines. If you haven't seen Flash, you have not been surfing French winery websites. I would guess that less than 10% of winery websites here in etats unis are full-on Flash, while in France it's more like 70%. Too often, the Flash obscures content. For example compare the rather clunky design of Ch Lynch Bages with the slick Flash work in Ch. Behychevelle's site. Yet the former has about 20 times as much useful, interesting info. And Beychevelle is at least good-looking; too many are not. That said, there are some great Flash sites from France. I particularly like Ch. Yquem and Veuve Clicquot.

It has a certain cuteness for sure, but I wouldn't call it the best. Check these three out from inexpensive wines to very high end:
