The vines are weeping here, it always gives me a little charge to see them. Looking across the vineyard early yesterday morning you could see the sun reflecting on the drops of sap dangling from the freshly pruned vines. When you see them you definitely understand why they say that pruning late is a good thing, it leaves a fresh cut so that the sap runs freely, helping the vine to rid itself of toxins, a sort of spring detox if you will. Look closely and you can see that the wood is drenched several inches from the tip, they really are weeping!

Can remnants of the goat milk whey based pruning paste still be seen in the photo of the weeping cane?

Hi Bill, no the "pruning paste" has a consistency of water, it is sprayed and dries almost immediately. The term paste is a little misleading, as it is very much a liquid. The clay helps it cling to the vine, but the solution looks like gray water, not too exciting! By the way, I did help spray the paste in the end! Matt had to go away on business so I finished it up today. It's not so bad, just a bit long...
